About weight status, your baby’s weight gain is healthy - doubling birth weight by 6 months is a good sign (WHO standards). Continue with breast milk as the main nutrition source for now; and slowly introduce solids to habituate the baby with solids and for the extra nutrients. Here are some weaning food options: Start with single-ingredient purees: steamed / mashed banana, apple, pear, sweet potato, carrot, lauki. Rice porridge (kanji) or moong dal soup - well-cooked, mashed, and mixed with breast milk / formula. Suji (semolina) kheer or oats porridge - cooked, soft, no sugar/salt. Soaked puffed rice (muri), flattened rice (chire), or popped rice (khoi) with mashed banana or dates for easy swallowing. Introduce one new food every 3 days. Make sure you avoid sugar, salt, honey, cow’s milk, and unpasteurized foods until 1 year of age and always supervise feeding.

Hi 6 months is too early to start puffed rice or flattened or popped rice. These are choking hazards for infants. Semolina can be given in porridge form if it suits the baby. Start with mashed fruits and vegetables now. Baby might take just 1 or 2 tsps and that's fine. If you need a personalised diet connect with me through the app. I specialise in child nutrition.. At 6 months, your baby is ready to start solid , but breast milk or formula milk is still the main source of nutrition Solids are for practice and taste exploration at this age Offer solids 1-2 times day to start Gradually increase Always feed solids after a milk feed , not before Single ingredients purées first Add fortified cereals mixed with breast milk or formula milk Mashed fruit or veggies purée ( about 2-3 tsp )
