Laser and laparoscopic hospital ( famously know as the general surgical clinic ) was established in the year 1950 by prof. Sundaram. It is located in the heart of T Nagar and is known for its surgical excellence. It was later taken over by his son prof Ashok Sundaram who is a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic and minimal access surgery. This is one of India's first few centers to start laparoscopic & minimal access surgery in the year 1990. Prof Ashok trained many students during his tenure and started a separate bariatric surgery wing and hernia clinic. He is also a pioneer in treating acid reflux disease and has several publications under his name. It is now taken over by Dr.Anisha Ashok ( surgical gastroenterologist) and dr Jayanth Vijayakumar (vascular surgeon) who have uplifted this to a complete surgical specialty hospital with 50-bed occupancy, dialysis facility, full range of laboratory service, cancer care center, center for obesity and bariatric surgery, and a center of excellence for the diabetic foot.
