A confident approach resulting from comprehensive exposure to various urological and renal transplant surgeries, kindful passionate patient care and an orientation towards research are all values, that Dr Shanmugasundaram has imbibed from his training at this renowned medical centre. Before getting into the teaching programme, he was working in the department of Urology for 3 years as non-post graduate resident after M.S General surgery. He has worked as a Faculty in the same department of Urology where he got his speciality training and was associate professor of Urology till 2012. During this period, he was actively involved in training many post-graduates and guiding them for their excellence. During the stay of a decade of tenure in the department of Urology, CMC vellore, he has done more than 100 renal transplant surgeries and 220 renal donor surgeries, has expertise in laparoscopic donor nephrectomies and multivessel renal transplant. He has special interest is in the fields of reconstructive urology and renal transplantation. Currently he is heading the department of Urology. He is an avid academician with 24 peer reviewed publications in various national and international journals.
