When blood is present in urine the condition is known as haematuria. Blood may be present in urine due to the following reasons: an infection in the urinary tract, Kidney stone, enlarged prostate, presence of urinary catheter, heavy exercise and family history of kidney disease.

The diagnosis of the sickle cell anaemia is done by carrying out a blood test. The test is known as haemoglobin electrophoresis in which the pathologist determines the type of haemoglobin. If you have sickle cell anaemia, then the haemoglobin appears sickle-shaped (like the letter C) in the examination. If you have a urinary catheter, it is common to experience bleeding in the urine bag, if the catheter is inserted after a prostate surgery, a kidney stone removal surgery or any other kidney-related surgical procedure, you may see some small blood clots in the urine after a prostate surgery. However, if you see bigger clots, you should report the doctor.
