Dr. Shekar Subbaiah has completed his MBBS from Mysore Medical College and MD (Paediatrics) from Bangalore. Later he got an opportunity to get trained in Australia. He has worked initially as a Neonatal senior registrar for three years under the Neonatal training program in John Hunter Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital and Neonatal Emergency transport System (NETS), Sydney. In the subsequent next three years, he worked as a Neonatal Fellow in Royal North Shore Hospital, Liverpool Hospital and Nepean Hospital in New South Wales, Australia.
Dr. Shekar Subbaiah also completed Bailey's course as a part of training and functional neonatal echocardiography from the Australasian College of ultrasound medicine. His other academic qualifications are Masters in Medical administration (NSW University, Australia) and he is a Fellow of Royal college of Medical Administrators.
