I still remember the day, when I dragged my feet through the doors of Inspiron, to meet Ms. Priyanka as adviced by my psychiatrist, wondering if this would do me any more good than my prior experiences with other counsellors.
The first session was with my mother to understand her view of my issue and my life from scratch. Once the session was over, from what my mother shared with me, I had a ray of hope that this therapy would at the least, have my mother to understand me better.
The following 2 sessions had me talking about my life, at the end of which, she made me realize some of the fundamentally wrong beliefs that I had based my life upon. It was definitely an eye opener.
Her non judgemental and friendly attitude helped me overcome my inhibitions and disclose every detail with ease. Though some of what she said were things that i had already heard of, the way she put it forth and explained with logic, made it more meaningful and convincing for me to bring about a change in my mindset.
At the end of every session, she helped me join the dots of everything that had happened so far in the session as well as in my life and jot down the same in my book, which gave me a better hold over things.
When I was reluctant to believe certain things that she said, she gave examples and engaged me in a few activities that made me more conscious of what I was doing, how it was affecting me and what I should be ideally doing to overcome my condition.
There was never a moment when I felt helpless after that, because I knew that I had her by my side and that definitely played a big role in re instilling optimism in me and boosting my self confidence .
I have acknowledged my condition and position now. I have begun to understand the reason behind things that have disturbed me a lot since long, which in return helps me to have a better control over myself.
The weight is finally off my head !!! :D I definitely owe her one for this as nothing would have been possible without her help and support.
