I have trained extensively in the UK and have qualifications and skills in various psychotherapeutic modalities. I trained and worked in the National Health Service (UK), from 1997 to 2011 on a substantive basis. I completed my core training and specialist training in psychiatry leading to gaining MRCPsych and Certificate of completion of specialist training with Royal College of psychiatry endorsement in Liaison psychiatry and Eating disorders. I have also acquired qualifications in psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy. My style of psychiatry is very much an attempt to complete the bio- psycho-social jigsaw, this informs both my assessment and the subsequent management of patients. I have special interest in psychodynamic psychiatry; this means all my assessments and management of common psychiatric disorders are informed by a more holistic approach. In addition to using the standard diagnostic framework I incorporate the narrative of the persons life and try to understand their difficulties in light of this.Clinical applications of these skills have been the main focus of my continuing professional development. I was successfully able to do this in the UK in a general psychiatric setting, leading a multidisciplinary team that comprised of highly skilled and experienced professionals. I have continued this process in the Indian cultural milieu since 2011. Since then I have worked simultaneously in the UK as a locum consultant and in India in various clinical settings, this has given me a unique transcultural perspective on Mental Health issues, particularly Personality Disorders. The key to delivering effective Mental Health care is to keep the focus centered on the patients needs, at that point in time and not what the therapist can offer, hence the only way is cohesive and collective multidisciplinary working. My training in Group Analysis and Psychodynamic Psychiatry has been the pivot to my development as a successful clinical team leader both in the UK and in India. In the last year I have worked as a Centre head for Mpower- the centre in Bangalore, I have had to rely on my leadership and management skills, which I have inherited growing up in a Marwari business family. I have developed the clinic with wholehearted commitment to the outreach and marketing initiatives, including personally delivering stress management and Mental Health awareness workshops in numerous educational and corporate organisations across Bangalore.I have worked mainly in Adult psychiatry (Depression, Anxiety disorders, OCD, Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder, Addiction disorders, Personality disorders, ADHD) and also have extensive experience of working with children and the elderly.I have provided child and adolescent psychiatric services to various schools in Bangalore including Jain international school and the valley school.I have a special interest in managing ADHD and teenage drug abuse. I have had extensive experience of working in liaison psychiatry (psychiatry in general hospital setting), Motherhood and mental illness, Psychooncology (psychiatry in oncology department)I have a special interest in eating disorders like obesity, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and all the atypical eating disorders.I am fluent in various Indian languages including Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, and Marwari and can manage a conversation in Gujarati, and Punjabi. My experience of working in Bangalore, India, as a private psychiatrist has added a wealth of knowledge and skills in managing common mental health issues in the Asian culture. The sheer volume and diversity of presentations has been a very enriching experience. I have developed a unique perspective on transcultural psychiatry due to working simultaneously in two very different culturesFrom, the beginning of 2012 I have been conducting stress management workshops and camps in various corporate teams in and around Bangalore. These workshops have evolved over a course of time to range from lectures to highly interactive sessions. Recently I have started conducting wellness-screening camps. The organizations I have covered include Mindtree, ABB, Oracle, and Capital one to name a few. I have a keen interest in developing this form of work further and am looking to incorporate group analysis principles to develop more in-depth activities with teams.I have maintained my Appraisal and revalidation commitments in the UKAbove all, I am passionate about teaching; I have worked as a consultant in a university teaching hospital and have trained numerous core trainees, specialist trainees, medical and nursing students over the years.
