Dr. K S Sriprakash graduated from Bangalore Medical College and belong…read mores to the
1970 batch. After internship, he completed his Post Graduation in M S Ophthalmology
in the year 1981 at the Minto Ophthalmic Hospital (MOH), the teaching hospital attached
to BMC.
Starting his career as a Lecturer in Ophthalmology at BMC in the year 1982, he
went on to specialize in Vitreo – Retina at Wills Eye Hospital – Philadephia, USA and
Scheie Eye Institute, University of Pennsylvania in 1990. He underwent advanced
Vitreo Retinal training (Pneumo Retinopexy) with Dr. George F Hilton, University of
California in 1994.
He held various positions at BMC from being a Lecturer, an Assistant Professor,
Professor of Ophthalmology, Chief of Department of Vitreo Retina and became the Coordinator
for Vitreo – Retinal Fellowship programmes at BMC from 2003 to 2006. He
was the Head of Department of Ophthalmology and the Medical Superintendent between
2006 to 2010 and in 2010 became the Director of Regional Institute of Ophthalmology
(RIO).
Naturally, this rich experience in Academics was recognized in the field of
Medical Education by he being appointed the Vice-Chancellor of prestigious Rajiv
Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) from 14th July 2011. This was a
strongly deserved appointment. He has since relinquished on completion of his tenure of
3 years.
Dr. Sriprakash not only ran the University with élan but also added to its reach
and capabilities. He added new departments of Quality Assurance and Accreditation,
Advance Research, Public Health Institute and Centre for Disease Control as well as
initiated a programme of Automation designed to make the University process
transparent. He has left a vastly improved, diversified and forward looking University.
RGUHS during his tenure progressed from a CIVIC University to an OUT REACH
UNIVERSITY.
His public contribution has been more than thousands cataract surgeries including
including most advanced surgeries like Micro incision, Cataract Surgeries (MICS), Vitriol Retinal Surgeries, Glaucoma and Squint Surgeries. He has more than 65 presentations at regional, national and
international forums. His publications are in indexed journals and has also contributed a
chapter in the text book of Vitreo – Retinal diseases.
He is the recipient of a number of awards and recognitions both in his
Professional as well as in the Public field such as
1) Award for “Outstanding service in Prevention of Blindness” in the Asia
Pacific region at a conference held at Tokyo, Japan – 2014.
2) The Prestigious “Indira Gandhi NSS award” from the Hon’ble President of
India for the year 2011-12 at New Delhi.
