I recommend the doctor

I was referred to Dr. Ravi by my psychologist. To be honest, the reviews by other patients made me think that he’s a strict and inflexible doctor. So I got scared. It took a lot of effort on my psychologist’s part to get me to make the appointment and then subsequently meet him.
I am glad I went to him. He’s strict and that came out in the first meeting itself when he told me that he would drop my case if I don’t put in full effort. But he’s fair. He gives you tasks that he judges you should be able to complete. And honestly, if you put in the effort, then you CAN complete the given task.
He is open to taking feedback and he’s honest (some would say too honest 😉). He’s the first psychiatrist, in my limited experience, I have seen who not only does pharmacotherapy but also psychotherapy.
In my mind, a doctor-patient relationship is a partnership where both partners have to put in their effort. However, there are times when one partner is not able to give his/her best. Dr. Ravi understands that that there are situations when the given task may be too difficult to complete and he’s gracious about that. So the fear that he will drop your case at the drop of a hat (my first impression) to my happiness turned out to be not completely true. This gives me confidence that he will work with me at my pace and maybe push where my pace is too slow to increase my confidence that I can handle this disorder.
One last thing. He is a doctor who is secure, has confidence in his abilities and does not try to negate anything that he has not taught to the patient. I have found a support group of my own and I have a close uncle, in a different location, who is a psychiatrist. I can without fear of offending him talk to him about the insights I get from my support group and my uncle.
I would just like to end this by saying that if you prefer a confident, honest, patient centric (not the person but resolution of the ailment) and a doctor who works as a partner, then he IS the doctor for you. He’s available on WhatsApp as well as Call for non-emergency and emergency situations respectively - which honestly has saved my life and given me the support to get over the trying situation. My treatment has just begun and in the doctor’s words is complicated. But I have gained some amount of faith in the short time that I have been visiting him that he probably is the right doctor for me.
Rest assured I will come back to update my feedback. But that will be later. Will keep you all posted.
