Dr. Pramod S. Chinder is a chief consultant in Musculoskeletal
Oncol…read moreogy at the HCG Hospital, Bangalore. His graduation and
post graduation are from the Kasturba Medical College,
Mangalore [Manipal University]. He was trained as a Clinical
Fellow for one year in the Department of Hand and
Reconstructive Microsurgery under Prof Robert W.Pho in
National University Hospital. Prof Robert Pho is a world
renowned person for Biological Tumour Reconstruction. He
continued his training in the Department of Musculoskeletal Oncology at Istituto
Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna, Italy under Prof Mario Mercuri and Dr Marco Manfrini
and under Prof Christopher Mathoulin in Istitut de la main , Clinique Jouvenet, Paris,
France.
His Key Interests are:
Biologic tumor reconstruction of Musculoskeletal tumours using microsurgical
techniques and APC techniques
Joint & Growth preserving tumour surgery using the latest imaging modalities [ eg
3T MRI, 3d CT], Computer Assisted Tumour Surgery [CATS] Allografts & Noninvasive
Expandable prosthesis.
Regenerative medicine therapy which involves the mesenchymal stem cell , platelet
rich plasma, etc are some of the subspecialties of interest
Dr Pramod started the musculoskeletal oncology program in HCG in 2010.
Since then, the department has managed more than 700 primary sarcoma cases and
1000 plus metastatic bone tumours and operated more than 900 surgeries in last 5
years. The department also have done more than 60 cases of therapy in
regenerative medicine. The department focuses on the multidisciplinary management
including various subspecialties of oncology like radiation oncology, medical
oncology, Pathology, Radiology , Nuclear medicine, Genetics, Psychooncology,
integrative oncology, stem cell and Regenerative medicine. Through HCG Foundation
and various other groups many underprivileged sarcoma cases have been treated in
the department.
The department conducted a weekly multidisciplinary tumour board meeting
on Friday where most cases of sarcomas are discussed and treatment planned. The
results are comparable to the world standards and some cases even more with
personalised based medicine. The results have been presented in various
international conferences.
The important milestones in the department are
1. Extensive use of massive allograft with close co-operation with Istituto
Ortopedico rizzoli and Prof Marco Manfrini
2. The first in India use of Computer assisted Tumour Surgery [CATS] with the
help of Dr KC Wong from HongKong
The vision of the department is to establish a National Sarcoma Centre of Excellence.read less
