I had my c-section in July 2009, and within a week the there was clear discharge from the wound. The gynecologist suspected that maybe it was because I was allergic to the self absorbable sutures that was used to seal the wound, and put me on antibiotics and daily dressing. It seemed to heal after 10 days. However, 2 months later, the clear discharge appeared again. This time we consultant many gynecologists and surgeons. I was put on multiple doses of antibiotics. This went on even after my child's first birthday. A surgeon did a surgery to remove the sinus tracts that were formed due to the infection. But non were able to identify the cause of infection or treat it as all the test reports came clean without any indication of bacterial presence. Even after the surgery, the issue did not resolve. I finally got the reference of senior surgeon Dr. H V Shivram. I consulted him and he immediately diagnosed me with atypical microbacterial infection post csection. He explained to me how he will have to do a clean up surgery again, and later team up with Dr Swati Rajgopal to treat the bacteria that is causing the infection. Dr. Swati too told me before hand that this will be a difficult case to treat as the tests were not able to identify the bacteria that is causing the infection. Post the second surgery, I was on daily injections for 2 months and later oral antibiotics for a year. I had weekly blood tests as I was on strong antibiotics. But glad that these amazing doctors were able to treat the case quite effectively, though it was a rollercoaster ride.
