He went to Mysore Medical College to do his MD in Internal Medicine. He finished his Super Speciality training (DM) in Rheumatology from the prestigious Madras Medical College. He started one of the first Rheumatology departments in a private hospital at Manipal Hospital Bangalore in 1997. He served there as head of the Department till November 2013, barring a brief period between 2002 and 2004 when he went to the United Kingdom for higher training. He was also a founder Director of CHANRE Immunology and Rheumatology centre which was started in 2007. He worked there till December 2013.
Dr. B. G. Dharmanand is the president of the Karnataka branch of Indian Rheumatology Association since 2008. He is presently, also the secretary of Indian Rheumatology Association. He has trained more than 10 Rheumatologists. He had organized many continuing medical education programs for the doctors, including five national level CMEs. He has published research and review papers in national and international journals. He has also authored chapters in Rheumatology and medicine textbooks.
