Then My mom was suffering from Sciatica along with pain in Knee joints. She was having unbearable pain due to Sciatica. We consulted multiple doctors in my hometown Dhanbad but nothing came out of it. Then we consulted a very senior Neurosurgeon (Dr. R.N. Bhattacharya) in Kolkata. He asked us to get an MRI done. After seeing the MRI report, he said that Sciatic nerve is pressed in spinal cord. He recommended surgery to fix it since all other methods have failed. Surgery in Spinal cord is considered very risky - if something goes wrong, patient will not be able to stand up for his entire life - so we wanted to get a second opinion. I called my parents to Bangalore and we went to St. John Hospital. We consulted Dr. Ashish Chand. He is head of Neurosurgery in St. John. When we went to see him, we took along all the MRI and other X-Ray reports but he didn't even see them at all. He said that my mother doesn't have Sciatica but Sacroiliitis. When we told him that another doctor has diagnosed for Sciatica, please check MRI once, he became very angry and said that I am having 25 years of experience. Whatever I am saying is right. If you don't believe go to some other doctor. No need to see me. We felt very bad but we stayed. To confirm his diagnosis, he asked us to get a TC-99 bone scan done. He said this scan is not available in St. John, we have to get it done from outside and gave number of a Dr. Murali of a private lab (NewMedd diagnostics) in Bangalore. We had no other option so we agreed to get the test done. Test was very expensive (around Rs. 5000). Test report clearly said there is no evidence for Sacroiliitis. We took the report to Dr. Chand (unlike other doctors, St. John doctors charge for every consultation, even followup also). After checking the report, he said the test report doesn't mean much. You definitely have Sacroiliitis. If test result didn't mean anything then why did you asked us to take the test anyway - just so that you can make money out of commission to the lab. you take some medicines and continue doing exercises.

We had wasted 3-4 important days and lot of money and nothing came out of it. I would never recommend anyone to visit him.

(We visited another doctor in Bangalore and he confirmed Sciatica)
